NOTE: The Success of the Trifecta Key Box Bet, Redux
Lately I wager only one or two races per day. I use the trifecta key box bet in races where it make the most sense, where I “know” who the winner will be.
Last Sunday Gina Romantica was my “Ultimate Pick of the Day.” So, I “knew” she would win (she didn’t) at the time I wagered.
I bet $18 to make Gina Romantica the Key horse in the box, and I followed up with four other horses in the other aspect of the trifecta key box: they were the other four horses I had picked in the enhanced analysis—- Sacred Wish, Ag Bullet, Kehoe Beach and Mouffy.
Actually of course I am hoping that Gina Romantica does not win, that instead she comes in second or third, with two of my other horses coming in with her for a bigger payoff. However, the beauty of the bet is that if she does win, based on typical trifecta payoffs, I will get my money ($18) back or maybe a little more if “longshots” come in behind her.
Lo and behold, Gina Romantica places, with 12/1 longshot Sacred Wish winning, and Ag Bullet as the show horse. The payout was $87.45, a net profit for the bet of $69.45.
I wish I had discovered this form of wagering before last year! The exacta key box works similarly and I think that, like the trifecta key box, it may be the most sensible bet in racing. I don’t ever want to influence your wallet- just passing along some information. I cannot be the only person aware of this form of wager…

RACE 3
Just three raced at RD and only Wistucky hit the board. Altogether seven raced, and six hit the board in a dirt sprint.
Wistucky could walk; he hit the board in three of five dirt sprints, placing last time out at 6f, and he hit the board in both routes, Romans kills MSW level, this is her second race after layoff
Senor Marcelo first rail trip; she hit the board last time out at 6f, and is rested, the elite Irad cinches the pick
Tucson first time starter (“FTS”); he has favorable pedigree for this trip, and the Pletcher entry carries topflight rider Zayas
RACE 4
The Sugar Swirl
Six furlongs, main track ($140000)
All but Socially Selective have won at stakes level. Three entries have won graded stakes: R Harper Rose, Spirit Wind and Mystic Lake.
All but R Harper rose have won at RD, and she won four of her eight dirt sprints.
Saffie Joseph enters five….
Mystic Lake she won two of three trips at RD and placed in the fourth, and she won the Grade II Oaks last summer at 7f, she is the top 2024 earner by far, Joseph kills the dirt sprint and Irad cinches the pick
Intrepid Daydream lightly raced, rested, she won a heady five of ten trips at RD and placed in three more, Joseph excels in the dirt sprint and at stakes level, all time earnings leader Johnny V. rides
Spirit Wind she won at RD at Grade II level last summer at Saratoga, with The Inimitable Mike Smith aboard, Joseph/Gaffalione $$$$ here
RACE 5
All raced at RD and eight of the entries won at RD. Two entries have never won any tapeta route: Go Big Green and Unrelentless. Eight entries are unrested creating a level playing field…
Cabernet she won a heady five of nine trips at RD, and placed in a sixth, Torres kills the syn race, Zayas produced three of her syn route wins and returns to the irons
Go Big Green that seven pound Husbands weight allowance saves energy; she finished a mere neck behind Cabernet when the two dueled on the 9th of November, although Cabernet had suffered a bumpy trip, she hit the board in her last two syn routes with Husbands in command
Don’t Get Pickled she hit the board in at least eight of eleven trips at RD on the syn, winning once and placing three times, Bravo produced that latest success, where she beat Go Big Green by less than a length, she rested in September and October
RACE 6
Very closely graded
Six raced, three at RD and two hit the board at RD: Governing Party and Cipher. I’m due hit the board at one mile on the grass, that’s it…Both Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher enter two…
Cipher the Pletcher entry hit the board at RD last time out up north, and with Irad in the irons he looms largest
I’m Due Sweezey kills MSW level; the colt hit the board back in NJ in her debut at one mile at the lovely Monmouth (picture a beautiful facility, just missing mountains and ocean in the background), Van Dyke rides again
Governing Party the Chad Brown entry hit the board in both of his turf routes, and he is well-rested, topflight rider Gaffalione takes over
RACE 7
Four raced at RD and just two won at RD: Personal Choice and Both Sides. Le Beau never won any dirt sprint.
Personal Choice Sierra kills the dirt sprint; the filly won both of her trips at RD, with this rider in the irons, and Sierra/Trejos $$$$$ here, she is well-rested to boot
Here’s the Kicker she placed in her sole trip at RD, and won here at 6 ½ f, Joseph kills the dirt sprint, serious rider upgrade to Irad
Both Sides she won at RD last time out with Perez aboard and hit the board in three of four trips at RD, winning twice, she is rested to boot
